OUR SEVEN CORE VALUES:

Donate Bikes to Make Needy Children’s Christmas Bright

Lugoff (WLTX) – A midlands girl and her family want to make sure kids find at least one gift under the tree this year.

Most kids can’t wait for Christmas to see what they’ll receive, but 10-year-old Alesha Hudson is more concerned about her peers who may not receive anything at all.

“Every kid should have at least one present,” said Alesha.

A few years ago Alesha saw her grandmother pitching in at church. “I said ‘Grandma I want to do something that has to do with outreach too, and she said well what do you want to do? I said I like bikes’,” said Alesha.

So the Hudson family started working, and what they came up with has changed Christmas for more than 150 kids. “That year my goal was six, and we got 36.”

Each year the Hudsons collect gently used bikes, spiff them up, and send them out to kids who otherwise may not get anything.

“It hurts me dearly, I know a lot of kids are unfortunate, but we’re gonna try to surprise them this year,” said Alesha’s father James Hudson.

So far the Hudsons have collected 60 bikes and are expecting more. A bunch of them aren’t claimed yet and they need a nice new home. Alesha’s smiling just thinking about it. That’s what she says Christmas is all about.

“It makes me feel happy, really happy. I like helping people a lot,” said Alesha.

The bikes will be given away this Saturday at Unity Methodist Church in Lugoff.  To find out about receiving one for your child, you can call (803) 438-0145.More bicycles are also needed. You can donate a new or used ride by calling the number above, or by making a cash donation. Checks can be deposited at the First Palmetto Savings Bank or taken to 1434 Baldwin Road, Lugoff, SC 29078.

The checks should be made out to Outreach Bicycle For Needy Children.
