OUR SEVEN CORE VALUES:

Time for a Change

When you think of food banks, you think of canned foods and the work they do to eliminate hunger. But there is another need at local food banks for diapers, and here is a big reason why:

In low-income households, babies often spend the entire day or longer in a single diaper, because the family cannot afford to buy an adequate supply of diapers.

Here are a few other compelling reasons:

• Infants need up to 12 diapers per day; toddlers about 8 diapers per day.
• An adequate supply of disposable diapers can cost over $100 per month.
• Dirty diapers raise the risk of health problems, from skin disease to hepatitis.
• Babies who cry for a long time because of dirty diapers raise their risk of child abuse.

The fact is, babies often spend two and half years in diapers. They need almost 12,000 changes, costing more than $4,000.

You can help! Talk to your friends and neighbors and your church about starting a diaper drive. Or just make a donation!

South Carolina families need diapers of all shapes and sizes, and every little bit helps.

The initiative continues through the end of the year, with a goal of collecting 250,000 diapers for food banks across South Carolina.
